Linda Statam, BA, CH — Founder, Hamptons Stress Management Services
Linda Statam has a passion for mind/body science. Her educational path includes a BA in Psychology, with emphasis on brain anatomy & physiology and the emotion/motivation center of the brain, followed by five years study of energy healing and spirituality, plus certification in hypnosis & life coaching. In 2005, the combination of the above came together in a unique Mind/Body mechanical model of healing, Mind/Body Mechanics, which incorporates all parts of being: Spiritual, Mental, Emotional (Chemical) and Physical. A simple model with profound benefits, which she has used successfully to empower thousands of clients in their own process of healing & growth..
Introducing Mind/Body Mechanics
Mind/Body Mechanics provides a powerful and comprehensive mind/body formula to relieve stress, re-frame & reprogram negative habit patterns, enhance healing, identify & plant goals and create positive change.
The individual fields of medicine, psychiatry, psychology and spirituality are all important. However, if they do not work together, our natural ability to heal is impaired. Every thought produces a chemical reaction which affects the physical body, either positively or negatively. The physical state is just one part of disease and dysfunction. Simply addressing the physical is often just a bandaid. If we don’t address the thought process, or mental images that trigger the negative chemistry, in conjunction with the physical issue, it will come back .
Mind/Body Mechanics addresses all operating systems. Physical & behavioral issues are reviewed. Through a series of questionnaires, negative thought patterns & mind sets, which create imbalances and distress in the chemical & physical body, are identified. Through the science of hypnosis (guided relaxation with positive suggestions) negative, self-limiting mindsets are re-framed and reprogrammed, while new, positive, healthy behavior patterns are planted on the subconscious level, through repetition of suggestion.
On the conscious level, the client is taught tools and techniques to relieve stress (i.e. proper breathing, thought-shifting and self-hypnosis), for self-control and self empowerment. The process is co-creative, with the client an active participant in change, every step of the way.
What is Hypnosis?
In essence, hypnosis is a means of communication between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. It is a natural state of mind experienced as trance. Hypnosis can be induced through the interaction of one individual speaking to another, or to an entire group as (group hypnosis); we can also learn to self-induce trance as in (self-hypnosis). Hypnosis, with it's myriad of applications, is rapidly emerging as a highly effective science in solving problems. It's a valuable adjunct to standard medical care and psychotherapy; and probably the lowest risk procedure available from the standpoint of contraindications.
Hypnosis can bring about major change in motivation, self confidence, relaxation, physical discomfort, creativity, habit control, and many other problems or difficulty in achieving goals. Yet few procedures are less understood, or more plagued by misunderstandings. Hypnosis is neither strange or mysterious. The truth is, you drift in and out of the hypnotic or trance state, on a daily basis. It goes unnoticed because it seems so natural and normal. And that, is exactly what hypnosis is, one of the natural states of mind that all human beings experience.
What is a Trance?
A trance is a natural state occurring whenever your attention is narrowly focused and relatively free of distractions. Your attention may be focused either internally (on self-talk, daydreaming, meditation, etc.) or externally (on a task, reading, a movie, engaged in an art form, intently listening to a speaker, etc.). Attention is narrowly focused so that other environmental stimuli are ignored for a period of time.
What Do the Experts in the Field Say About the Effectiveness of Hypnosis?
"Hypnosis is one of the top four mind-body therapies practiced by Americans today." - Harvard Medical School
"Hypnosis is increasingly being used for helping people lose weight, stop smoking, or even perform better in athletics or academic tests." - Wall Street Journal
"A study conducted at the University of Connecticut found people using hypnosis were able to lose, on average, about 2.5 times as much weight as those not using hypnosis." - Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology
"We are now producing evidence showing [hypnosis] can be significantly therapeutic... Studies have shown it to be highly effective as a tool for certain kinds of habit control... Hypnosis is safer than virtually any medication any of us doctors use." - David Spiegel, MD, Stanford University School of Medicine.
In 1998 JAMA reported that "Americans made more visits to alternative practitioners in 1997 than to primary care doctors and spent more than $21.2 Billion on alternative therapies."
"The easiest way to break bad habits is through hypnosis" - Newsweek Magazine
"Hypnosis can be used very effectively for pain reduction. It can also be very useful in treating anxiety in people who are anxious. Hypnosis has been shown to be effective in helping people to stop smoking and in controlling overeating." - David Spiegel, M.D. Associate Chairman of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University
